Do your horses ever become impatient or “hangry”? Domesticated animals depend on humans for their daily care, making a consistent feeding schedule essential. For our personal horses, boarders, and training clients, regular mealtimes help minimize stress, reduce the risk of colic, and support stable energy levels and overall performance. Timely breakfast and dinner schedules are as exciting for people as it is for animals.
Every action we take has purpose, and maintaining healthy animals is fundamental to the success of any farm program. Even minor deviations in routine can create stress, but predictable feeding times offer horses a sense of security and something to anticipate.
Access to clean water is equally important. At each feeding, we thoroughly inspect tanks and buckets to ensure every horse has a fresh, clean supply. A consistent feeding routine, paired with proper hydration, supports healthy digestion and reduces the likelihood of colic.
While feeding times do not need to be precise to the second, they should be consistent and clearly defined. A well-fed horse is far easier to work with than one that is stressed or hungry. Our established routine keeps our horses motivated and can serve as an effective training aid, as they learn they can rely on us to provide their meals twice daily.
